2007 iPod nano
Not only is Apple making more and more products available, they are also ensuring that the marketing hype and availability spills over into foreign lands. The new iPod nano is already available on display at Apple stores in ZA.

The initial photos shown by Jobs during the announcement cannot do the diminutive size of this device justice: the previous generation nano was thin enough, probably around 5mm or so. The new nano feels as thin as a piece of paper – I’d guess 3mm, and is absolutely tiny in its height and width. There’s a clear 2″ colour screen capable of playing back movies. Coverflow for album artwork and 4GB or 8GB of storage space, depending on the model chosen. With the Shuffle, you had to worry that you wouldn’t lose the gadget in one of your pockets – it’s a similar worry with the new nano. It may look like a fatty in the pictures, but that’s misleading.
If you’re not an iTunes user, like I am, you should be aware that the newer iPod models contain encrypted SHA hash functions to prevent iPods from being connected to anything other than iTunes for data transfers. Thankfully, that mechanism has already been defeated.
