Warner Bros. Movie World
Today was hot. Humid and hot. Roughly 32 degrees, with nary a breeze. Our destination: one of the many theme and activity parks spread around the Gold Coast – Warner Bros Movie World. Finally we were welcomed to the world of Looney Tunes, yet here we’d been in Australia for about three weeks already
Tickets to these parks are not exactly cheap. We settled on the aptly-named Escape Pass which provides entrance to Movie World and Sea World over a period of three days. When you hear the name Escape Pass, it’s a sign to run for cover: the price per adult is AUD 115, per child AUD 75. For our party of two-and-a-half, the cost for entrance to the parks equals a return ticket from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Let’s focus on the positive: fun for the whole family and it’s a holiday! WB Movie World is a real treat for kids of all ages, though a single day is quite strenuous and not enough to see all the attractions.
The 4D Shrek movie was really cool, featuring water mist and rocking seats. A photo opportunity after the show could not be missed.
Alexander seemed somewhat perturbed by the appearance of the movie personality. I’ll admit to being somewhat wary of big, green guys myself…
Then, there are the rides. Many of them. We focused on the kids’ section and spent a fair bit of time there.
Surprisingly, the roller coaster became a rather firm favourite with the little guy: not even a whimper on the downhill run. I had to clench my teeth.
The biggest balls-up with the park’s attractions are the waiting times. The entrance fee includes access to all, so it is natural that queues will develop. Our third attempt at getting into the Stunt Drivers show was rewarded with a seat, but only after a one hour wait! Even more than an hour before opening time, the queue had stretched along Main Street and around the corner. We waited in line because six hours is a long time to be walking and standing, but there have to be better ways of dealing with the problem of huge queues that stretch for hundreds of meters.
In any event, the Stunt Drivers were a worthy finale to a fun-filled, yet tiring day.
Hopefully we’ll have recovered some of our energy to make it to Sea World tomorrow.
And the Batman? He was there too, of course.
