Talks of HOPE

The Last HopeI look forward to the regular downloads of the MP3 recordings of the radio station broadcasts Off the Hook and Off the Wall (don’t call them podcasts. Emmanuel Goldstein isn’t too fond of that term!) If you’re into that kind of thing, the following may be of interest to you. Available for download for the first time is the complete audio of all talks presented at The Last HOPE conference in July.

There are about 100 audio files to be downloaded,  ranging in topic from social engineering to bio-hacking. There’s a choice of low and high quality audio files that you may select based on your bandwidth restrictions. Read through the list of talks and fill up your media player – I’m sure you’ll find something of interest.

ZA Tech Show

ZA Tech ShowAs a consumer of many podcasts, I was pleased to run across a local one that is entertaining and informative. It is strange to hear the word podcast spoken without an American accent!

The ZA Tech Show is an hour-long show with discussions focusing on tech and gadgets, but with a South African slant. The panel consists of a number of journalists and they’ve managed to keep their schedule up with four shows already produced. If you are looking to add another podcast to your player and have a keen interest in technology in a ZA context, I recommend you give the ZA Tech Show a try.

Long podcast

Audiobooks run for a number of hours. Most podcasts have a limit of an hour, sometimes two. If you have a long trip ahead of you, I could recommend you listen to this one. It’s no slouch: you’ll have about 7 hours and a bit of listening to do!

Binary Revolution Radio

Binary Revolution is one of those hacker podcasts I cottoned on to a little over a year ago, Offering a slightly different slant on matters, Binary Revolution is generally entertaining. Ordinarily, I would have skipped an episode that reviews past seasons or episodes. This is the season 4, and overall, final episode of Binary Revolution Radio and is quite interesting to listen to. If this is your cup of tea, you may want to delve into previous episodes for further information.

Gnome off his locker

Chris Pirillo uses Windows. The context for that remark becomes clear once you’ve taken the time to listen to this podcast…

Cameron’s G’day World is a show that I’ve been an ardent follower of for quite a while. One of the better ones is episode 266, an attempt at an interview with the LockerGnome himself. None other than Chris Pirillo. It’s quite a feat for someone to prevent the Cam from getting a word in edgewise! Pirillo provides some excellent commentary – thought-provoking, and certainly an avenue for further research. Get the podcast here and enjoy. It’s rare to find two guys so passionate about a certain topic!

By the way, Chris: your use of Windows is forgiven ;-)

Yankee perspective on the World Cup coverage

2600Both Off the hook and Off the wall belong to my list of favourite podcasts. Emmanuel Goldstein‘s shows are made available to a worldwide audience once they’ve been broadcast in the New York area on a university and community radio station. The shows focus on privacy issues, hacking and speculation on Uncle Sam’s penchant to deal in black operations.

Though the show I’m referring to is already almost two weeks old, it offers an interesting perspective on how the World Cup tournament is broadcast to viewers in the USA. Get the podcast here. You may want to scroll to the 14 minute mark, or thereabouts, to skip a boring intro.

For a geek and hacker, this dude is on the ball ;-)

Mention on Geeks of Hazzard

Geeks of HazzardThose geeks at The Geeks of Hazzard have given me a mention. No, not that kind of a doctor! But I wouldn’t send my kids to me either ;-)

If you enjoy some geek and alcohol-inspired humour, give these guys a try.
